Traditional Moroccan Beauty
Traditional blue powder for luminous-looking skin.
Saharan Nila is a distinctive blue powder rooted in Moroccan and North African beauty traditions. Recognised for its characteristic deep blue colour, it has long been incorporated in small amounts into traditional preparations for the skin.
Traditionally associated with the Saharan regions of Morocco, Nila is used as part of freshly prepared beauty treatments. Within the Maison de l’Atlas hammam ritual, a small amount is combined with Ghassoul Clay to create a fresh mineral treatment prepared by hand moments before use.
Saharan Heritage
Nila is closely associated with beauty traditions of Morocco’s Saharan regions, where its distinctive blue colour has made it a recognisable ingredient in traditional preparations for the skin.
Used in small quantities alongside other traditional materials, Nila reflects an approach to beauty in which raw ingredients are prepared fresh and combined by hand as part of the ritual itself.
Within the Moroccan hammam tradition, Maison de l’Atlas pairs Saharan Nila with Ghassoul Clay to create a freshly prepared mineral treatment following cleansing and exfoliation.
The Ritual
Saharan Nila forms part of The Hammam Purifying Ritual — a deeper ritual of cleansing, exfoliation and mineral care.
Inspired by the Moroccan hammam, the ritual combines traditional Beldi Soap with mineral-rich Ghassoul Clay and Nila Powder. The experience is designed as a sequence: soften the skin, cleanse deeply, then prepare a fresh clay treatment by hand.
1. Steam
Begin with warm water or steam to soften the skin and prepare it
for cleansing.
2. Cleanse
Massage Beldi Soap over damp skin and allow it to sit briefly
before rinsing.
3. Refine
Use your Kessa glove, if included, with gentle sweeping movements
over the skin.
4. Mix
Combine Ghassoul with a small amount of Nila and add water gradually
in the ritual bowl.
5. Apply
Mix into a smooth mineral paste and apply to the skin.
6. Rinse
Rinse thoroughly with warm water and gently pat the skin dry.
Clean. Refined. Renewed.
Maison Selection
At Maison de l’Atlas, we select our raw materials with attention to quality, purity and provenance.
We celebrate the places, knowledge and rituals with which these materials have traditionally been associated, presenting them as close to their original form as possible.
Our Saharan Nila is selected for its characteristic blue colour, fine texture and connection to the traditional beauty practices of southern Morocco.
Pure. Traditional. Uncomplicated.
Care & Precautions
For cosmetic use only. Natural raw materials may vary slightly in colour, texture and appearance from batch to batch.
Use sparingly, as Nila is intensely coloured. Patch test before first use. Avoid direct contact with the eyes and do not apply to irritated or damaged skin.
Due to its intense blue colour, Nila may temporarily stain light-coloured textiles, porous surfaces or other materials. Handle with care during preparation and application.
Prepare mixtures fresh for each ritual and discard any unused prepared mixture after use. Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight.
